Is it summer yet?
After today's happenings, the answer to that is a resounding NO. Yes, at approximately 10am local time, Douglasville, GA saw some frozen precipitation. Now, I won't go so far as to call it "snow", but it was white, cold, and fell from the sky. So there you go. It happened, and surprisingly, the town didn't start flipping out. See, here in Georgia, we don't get much snow, or whatever that stuff was flying around today, so when we get it, we have no idea how to act. It's like the apocalypse or something. Seriously, it makes the top story on the news. Grocery stores sell out of bread and water. It's been a prominent topic of conversation around these parts because it's been so cold recently. I can only imagine what people from New England or Minnesota think of us. Down here, today will be remembered as "The 'Snow' Day of 2006!" Northerners have another name for today: "Thursday".
Anyway, onto my thoughts about summer. I'm literally chomping at the bit in anticipation of baseball season. OK, maybe not literally. But, if I had a 'bit', rest assured, it would be chomped on right about now. I picked up a couple of baseball season preview magazines today at the store. I haven't had a chance to read them yet, but I did flip through and see they both picked the Braves to win the NL East for a 15th consecutive year. Rock on. I also noticed that they picked teams other than the Braves to go to the World Series, so it's going to be like "15th verse, same as the first 14, except for that one time when it was different because we won". Oh well, there's always hope, right Red Sox Nation?
OK, so get this...I found out today that the youth minister at my church here in D'ville is coveting my services for the summer. My initial reaction was something like, "yeah, see, I'm working Fuge, so, yeah, sorry...." Then, I got that response that (let's just be honest, people) nobody likes to hear. "Well, at least pray about it." What are you going to say to that, No? So, I told him I would....so, I'm also going to ask you all to pray for me that I earnestly seek God's answer for that and not my own. Because, honestly, I want to do that thing where we say "OK, I'll pray about it" and then not do it, but say I did, because I really want to work camp. And, I know that's not the right thing to do, so I need y'all's help with that...'preesh'.
